My first expedition to the Isle of Rùm was in 1985 toi teach environmental field courses. I repeated my journey frequently over the next five years for my PhD research on environmental changes associated with the native woodland restoration program that began in 1958 and led to the planting of over a million trees. After more than thirty yeras, I returned to Rùm, curious to see how the woodlands had grown. I was not disappointed.

Seeing the Tour de France in person was on my project list for many years. To watch it with my family from the house where I was born and bred in Haworth, Yorkshire was an event to be treasured forever. On Tour is the second in my Ramifications series of short, limited-edition books.

World Heritage sites attract, support and need us. When they were established by UNESCO in 1972, climate change was not recognized as a concern. In 2020, the International Union for Conservation of Nature declared that it is now their biggest threat. This photo essay explores environmental changes in five of Alberta's six World Heritage sites.
